Genre Research

The horror film genre is one where the aim of the film is to make the audience experience the emotions of fear, horror and terror. The plots usually involve theme of death, illness and the supernatural.

From my experience with horror films they usually are set in a dark place, secluded from any real civilisation. There is usually one main villain, and several victims.

There are different types of horror, the generic axe murderer screaming girls in a haunted house e.g. Friday the 13th, there is also the more psychological thriller horror e.g. Gothika and the sci-fi horrors e.g. Alien and Alien vs Predator.

Choosing a Genre

There are a few different genres I am able to choose from. With in these genres there are many more sub-genres.

The main genres I have to choose from are comedy, romance, horror, sci-fi, thriller, action and crime.

After looking at a film trailer for each of the above genres I decided to go with the horror genre. My main reasoning for this choice was because the trailers required the least amount of acting, and since the people I will be casting aren't professional actors and actresses the trailers I would make for the other genres wouldn't look as professional as I could make the horror trailer look.
